Man shoots neighbor after trying to break up fight between his girlfriends

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — A man is facing assault and weapons charges after allegedly shooting his neighbor after he tried to break up a fight between his girlfriends.

On April 30th at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in which a victim reported being assaulted and shot by his neighbor, later identified as Jermaine Driver.

The victim said the altercation began when his girlfriend got into a physical fight with Driver’s girlfriend over a dispute about their shared driveway.

When the victim attempted to intervene, Driver allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him.

After the shooting, the victim told officers that Driver physically assaulted him by choking him and punching him in the face. According to the police report, the victim suffered abrasions to his neck and complained of shoulder pain as a result of the assault.

The driver and his girlfriend fled the scene before police arrived.

On May 2, the victim positively identified Driver, from a photo lineup of six people, as the person responsible for shooting and physically assaulting him.

The driver was arrested on July 5 and charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering others and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 8.
