Columbia man dies in Boone County crash on Interstate 70

A Columbia man was killed in a crash Tuesday morning at mile marker 117 of Interstate 70, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report.

The report states that a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer, driven by Derson Jeanlouis, 36, of Brandon, Florida, was in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70 when he began to slow down due to another crash ahead of him.

A 2014 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Joshua Hulse, 22, of Columbia, struck the rear of the tractor trailer and “became pinned underneath the trailer,” the report states.

Hulse was pronounced dead at the scene by the Boone County Medical Examiner, the report said.

The Chevy was carrying two passengers: Johnathan Wolfe, 21, of Sturgeon, and Austin Pitford, 23, of Ozark. Both passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to University Hospital by ambulance, the report said.

No injuries were reported in Jeanlouis. The driver and passengers were wearing seat belts, the report said. The Chevrolet was totaled, while the tractor trailer sustained minor damage.
