SALT LAKE CITY – Memphis Grizzlies Rookie Second-round pick Jaylen Wells’ dominant effort was capped by a game-winning one-handed jumper at the buzzer to lift the Grizzlies to a thrilling 87-85 comeback victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in a Salt Lake City Summer League clash on Tuesday night at the Delta Center in Utah.

The 76ers (1-1) opened the game in dominant fashion that belied how competitive the contest would become, as Philadelphia held a 31-17 lead over the Grizzlies (1-1) after the first quarter. However, Memphis turned things around in the second, erasing its entire deficit to send the game into halftime tied 49-49. The Grizzlies would then step up their defense several notches in the second half, limiting the Sixers to 36 points over the final two quarters and sealing the close win with Wells’ thrilling basket at the buzzer after an Isaiah Miller miss.

Wells led the 76ers with 27 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Fellow second-round rookie Cam Spencer chipped in with 18 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and a steal. DeJon Jarreau totaled 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. Miller and Timmy Allen generated matching eight-point efforts, with Miller adding eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Jeff Dowtin led the 76ers with 18 points, which he complemented with six assists, two rebounds and a steal. Keve Aluma added 15 points, four rebounds, one assist and a block. Justin Edwards had 14 points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks. First-round rookie Jared McCain totaled 12 points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal.

The two teams return to action Wednesday night at the Delta Center to close out the Salt Lake City Summer League, with the Grizzlies taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder and the 76ers taking on the Utah Jazz.
