A Big Lake woman died after being struck by the driver of an off-road motorcycle on a paved trail Monday, Alaska State Troopers said.

Brendan Clark, 19, of Anchorage, was riding a Yamaha dirt bike on a trail in Big Lake “at a high rate of speed” when he struck Nadara Williams, 79, shortly before 4:30 p.m., troopers said. It is not legal to ride dirt bikes or other off-road vehicles on pedestrian trails.

Troopers and medics were called to the area and transported Williams to the hospital, but she died from her injuries Tuesday, trooper spokesman Austin McDaniel said.

Clark had minor injuries that were treated at the scene, McDaniel said.

He was cited for operating an all-terrain vehicle in a designated pedestrian zone. Court records show he paid a $120 fine. Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
