A burst of heavy rain on Tuesday caused localized flooding in parts of our neighborhoods.

The area of Abbot Road and Burcham Drive looked more like a river than a three-way intersection as cars tried to navigate the flooded street.

Fox 47 News witnessed several vehicles make it through while one pickup truck became stuck before city officials closed the road to traffic. It reopened shortly before 6:30 p.m.

A group of five people helped push the pickup truck off Burcham Drive and into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. The group said it helped pull four vehicles out of the flooded street.

Riley Michael and Sarah Horger left their nearby apartment to move their vehicles when they noticed a large puddle of water where an intersection should have been.

They also saw people walking through water up to their knees.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, at least in East Lansing,” Michael said.

Floodwaters began to recede around 6:15 p.m. and the road was clear by 6:30 p.m. Wednesday’s forecast calls for heavy rain to continue through the first half of Wednesday and taper off in the afternoon.
