2-year-old girl dies in Marana after being found in a hot car

MARANA, AZ — A child is dead after being found “unresponsive” inside a vehicle in Marana, northwest of Tucson.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Marana Police Department was alerted to a child in danger in a residential area near Cortaro Farms Road and Hartman Lane.

Police and crews from the Northwestern Fire District performed life-saving measures on the boy as he was rushed to a hospital. The boy was later pronounced dead.

Marana Police Department officials told ABC15 the two-year-old girl was left in the car for approximately 30 minutes to an hour before she was found unresponsive.

Police say her father says he left the car running with the air conditioning on while he walked into his house, but when he returned the car was off.

It is unclear why he went inside and left the girl in the car for that period of time.

The temperature in Marana around 4 p.m. was 109 degrees.

An investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released.
