A man has died after being stabbed in the neck outside an apartment complex in Canoga Park, police say.

Initial reports from the Los Angeles Police Department indicate that officers were called to 7523 Vassar Avenue around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday and upon arrival found a man lying with a stab wound in the courtyard of the complex.

The man’s family heard a noise inside their apartment and came out to find him with a “laceration to his neck,” the LAPD said.

Despite the efforts of emergency services to save his life, he was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities did not immediately release his identity; however, KTLA 5’s Annie Rose Ramos spoke with the victim’s mother, who identified him as a man in his 30s named George. She also said she did not know any information about her son’s death.

George was the father of a toddler, his mother revealed.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s who remained at large as of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether the incident was gang-related.

Investigators are looking into what led to the stabbing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
