Matt McCall leaves his assistant position at the College of Charleston

College of Charleston men’s basketball assistant coach Matt McCall has decided to step away from the program, citing personal reasons.

“First, I want to thank Chris Mack, Matt Roberts, and the College of Charleston for this incredible opportunity. Accepting this job has given me great perspective. After much reflection and discussion with my family, I have decided to step away from my position to pursue other passions and keep my family in Florida. When we moved here two years ago, we didn’t realize the positive impact it would have. This is our home and this is the best thing for us right now,” McCall said.

“I love basketball and don’t want to close the chapter on coaching, but I have found a new passion and a new path that I have thoroughly enjoyed in broadcasting. I have had great partners over the past two years at NBC Sports, Sirius XM, CBS Sports HQ and Field of 68 and I look forward to continuing my career in broadcasting with any new opportunities that come my way. College of Charleston is a special place and they have a team built to win. I wish Coach Mack, the entire staff and players all the best!”

“I understand Matt’s decision to step away from college coaching. I think he’s at a different stage in his life as his kids are older and he wants to be more of a father than a coach. I truly understand that,” head coach Chris Mack said. “We will miss him, but we wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
